♪I'm forever haunted by our time♪
It begins as it ends; in the state of always and forever being haunted.
A relationship that only lasted for one summer, couldn't possibly have any life-changing effect, right? In the case of Carly Rae Jepsen's Julien, we are sorely mistaken.
Though the relationship in question is only described as a moment, it goes to show that it's not just about how much time together was spent but how one chose to spend it. What we have here can either be the most ridiculous pop song we might ever had the pleasure to sing and dance to; or a love song, sad and desperate but nevertheless, worthy of our attention.

There is certainly an eagerness and enthusiasm on the lover's part but is trumped by the sadness and the apparent blind hope.

There's a name, Julien, and with it, comes the casual but deeply loaded affirmation, 'yeah.' It wishes to convince with force; that there is something more to that summer. This force is, to the end and to the last breath.

Dizzy from the dance; a pause of doubt and resistance; and a failed attempt for numbness. The memory of that summer is still dancing, still enjoying itself inside the lover's mind.

There's no question, it was more than a fantasy. But it's almost like someone has had enough and covered their ears; refusing to hear what comes next.
